Kawaii Kid’s Clothes
A discussion was sparked last night about great clothing for kids. Here are the latest fashion photos from the place of all things kawaii (cute), Japan. Japanese clothing is usually simple and made with natural fabrics. I hope you enjoy these photos and if you would like to see more Japanese fashions or purchase the patterns click here.
Tasty Tuesday
Most women have those days when we just don’t have time to put a meal together. I think the solutions to this problem are Sonic, the crock pot, and Tasty Tuesday, the day we post great recipes for you to try.
This week’s recipe is an easy crock pot recipe called taco soup.
Taco Soup
2 pounds ground beef
2 cups diced onions
2 (15 1/2-ounce) cans pinto beans
1 (15 1/2-ounce) can pink kidney beans
1 (15 1/4-ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can Mexican-style stewed tomatoes
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can tomatoes with chiles
2 (4 1/2-ounce) cans diced green chiles
1 (4.6-ounce) can black olives, drained and sliced, optional
1/2 cup green olives, sliced, optional
1 (1 1/4-ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 (1-ounce) package ranch salad dressing mix
Corn chips, for serving
Sour cream, for garnish
Grated cheese, for garnish
Chopped green onions, for garnish
Pickled jalapenos, for garnish
Brown the ground beef and onions in a large skillet; drain the excess fat, then transfer the browned beef and onions to a large slow cooker or a stockpot. Add the beans, corn, tomatoes, green chiles, black olives, green olives, taco seasoning, and ranch dressing mix, and cook in a slow cooker on low for 6 to 8 hours or simmer over low heat for about 1 hour in a pot on the stove. To serve, place a few corn chips in each bowl and ladle soup over them. Top with sour cream, cheese, green onions and jalapenos.

Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!
I know that we have all heard the phrases “think outside the box” and “ color outside the lines”, but what do they really mean. “Think outside the box” originated in the USA in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It is the phrase used to get people to think creatively, unimpeded by orthodox or conventional constraints. The phrase “color outside the lines” also has the same meaning.
If you think inside a box that has guidelines and limitations, does that mean you are not as creative as the person who thinks outside the box. Maybe it’s just me but I think thinking inside the box takes just as much imagination and thought as thinking outside the box. Let’s imagine a child with an actual cardboard box. When they are on the inside of the box, it becomes a cave, a house, or a spaceship. When they are on the outside of that same box it can become a building, a mountain, or a train.
It does not matter if you think inside the box or outside the box all that matters is that you think. Dr. Seuss says it this way, “think left and think right and think low and think high. oh, the things you can think up if only you try!”
Time to make a change
Ok. So I realized two Thursdays ago that we like to talk. And we like to hang out. And we like to eat dinner and relax. And I also realized that we have ladies who come to our meetings that get up before GOD! So let’s make a change….here we go.
Starting this Thursday (the 25th), we will begin the “Talk” promptly at 7 pm. We will still have a light dinner and snacks for those of you who have to come straight from work or don’t have time to eat before. Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm. This should give us enough time to eat and be social, and still start our talk at 7.
See you guys all on Thursday!!! – Patti
PS- At our last meeting, I was supposed to ask around and allow someone to volunteer to bring food to the next meeting (the 25th). I forgot to do that. Would anyone like to volunteer? Email me and let me know…patti@southpoint.tv……THANKS!!
The Parables of Dr. Seuss
The stories of Dr. Seuss are both imaginative and entertaining, but what do they have in common with Jesus or the Ladies’ Small Group. A closer look at the stories of Dr. Seuss reveals that many are inspirational and that there are parallels between the character’s actions and the lessons found in scriptures.
Come out and join the Ladies at SouthPoint this and every other Thursday as we explore how the lessons of the Dr. Seuss stories may apply to our lives.
